Mr. Richard Wilson reports
DRILLING COMMENCES AT RED MOUNTAIN PROPERTY
Regent Ventures Ltd. has recently started the exploration program on its Red Mountain property located 135 kilometres east of Dawson, Yukon, Canada. The Clear Creek Road provides access by four-wheel drive to the property during the summer months from the Klondike Highway No. 2.
Geologically the Red Mountain Property is located in the Tombstone Belt, the eastern part of the Tintina Gold Belt. The district geology is underlain by metasedimentary rocks ascribed to the Narchilla Formation of Upper Proterozoic to Lower Cambrian age, intruded, during the Cretaceous, by the Tombstone Plutonic Suite.
A detailed geological mapping program was conducted by Regent during the first part of the exploration program in early July and was immediately followed by a polarization survey. The geological mapping program detailed the lithological differences within the metasedimentary formation consisting of meta siltstone, meta-sandstone, meta-conglomerate and quartzite, intruded by a hornblende-biotite-bearing quartz monzonite, later crosscut by volcanic breccia, fault breccia, cataclasite and faults. The geophysical model provided by the inversion of the polarization survey indicated the presence of high chargeability zones. The geophysical model was then integrated with the geological understanding acquired in the first part of the season and by re-logging some of the diamond drill holes previously drilled in the property. The consequent geological model guided the definition of the drilling targets currently being tested by the diamond drilling program commenced on 12th July. Gold occurrences in the district are generally correlated to the intrusion of the Cretaceous Tombstone Plutonic Suite and its surrounding hornfelses, and they share some of the characteristics belonging to the Reduced Intrusion Related Gold Systems.
The first hole drilled and completed at Red Mountain during the 2010 program (DD10-50) reached a depth of 289.7 m, and indicated the presence of multiple vein zones hosted in the quartz monzonite and in the breccia adjacent to the intrusion. Different generations of veins were encountered and among the others the following vein assemblages are reported after visual examination of the core:
- arsenopyrite+chalcopyrite,
- pyrrhotite+chalcopyrite+arsenopyrite±tourmaline,
- pyrrhotite+chalcopyrite, and
- tourmaline+quartz+arsenopyrite+quartz±carbonate.
The drilling program will continue to test the high-chargeability anomalies,
the margin of the intrusive(s), the fault breccia and its intersections with
the intrusive(s).
The core will be sawn, sampled and half a core will be sent to the Echo Tech
Laboratory in Whitehorse for sample preparation, then will be sent for analysis to
the Stewart Group Laboratory in Kamloops, British Columbia. A quality assurance and
control program is in place since the beginning of the 2010 drilling program.
