Since I'm sure no one wants to bother reading through all the patents, here are some of the things of note I've read:
- US Patent covers trays that are removable from the side
- US Patent describes the frames made out of powder-coated aluminum, PVC, or ABS
- US Patent describes a waste heat removal method that involves a central tube running through the middle of the garden, as part of the lighting system
- US Patent describes a CO2 delivery system
- US Patent describes the stacking methodology as the bottom of one frame connected to the top of the frame below it
- US Patent describes the 'pairing' methodology (placing the units side-by-side) as 'connecting one modular unit to a unit beside it'
In short: There's a lot of overlap between Roto-Gro's patent and RQB's O.G. 2.0, but also lots that's different. I'm not a lawyer, so I have ZERO idea if there's enough different to avoid patent infringement though. What I do know is there is TONS of prior art regarding orbital gardening tech going back well-before 2008, so it's unlikely the patent is about orbital gardening, specifically. More likely the patent covers the unique combination of all of the technology as a package, that being the combination of:
- Orbital growing
- Waste heat removal
- Unit stacking horizontally
- Unit stacking vertically
- Unit stacking longitudinally
- Central lighting consisting of four bulbs
- A scaffolding/framework made of a non-rusting material such as aluminum, ABS, or PVC
- A nutrient tray made of same
- The optional ability to deliver gaseous CO2 to the plant material
Some handy links for all:

Lots of competing product and 'Prior Art':
Anyway, it'll be good to have this whole thing resolved quickly, but I'm not letting it affect my investment decision either way.
