07:07 AM EDT, 09/01/2017 (MT Newswires) -- Chinese state-owned conglomerate China Merchants Group is evaluating acquisitions of offshore rig operators, including Seadrill Ltd. (SDRL), according to a Bloomberg report citing people with knowledge of the matter.
The report said the deliberations were at an early stage, and China Merchants hasn't made any formal offers and may opt to pick off assets as opposed to full takeovers.
SDRL shares were 11.5% higher pre-bell.
