VMS and GOLD exploration targets in Canada
VMS and GOLD exploration targets in Canada
* VMS in Canada: at Kidd Creek, there are 115 million tonnes of ore containing an average of 2.2% copper and 7.25% zinc, plus 145 grams silver per tonne. The Flin Flon deposit in Manitoba contains 62 million tonnes of 2.2% copper, 4.1% zinc and 43 grams silver. The Horne mine at Noranda contained 54 million tonnes grading 2.2% copper, 13 grams silver and 6.1 grams gold. Observe the metallic variability.
* In Canada, the average number of deposits per VMS camp is 9, ranging from 4 at Wanitouwadge, Ontario to 21 at Noranda, Quebec (simplified examples in Figure 7 ) .
* Gold deposits in banded iron formations contain from 0.1 to 100 million tonnes of ore grading between 4 and 30 grams gold per tonne.
* For Archean shear-hosted gold deposits in general, a mineable deposit contains a grade of 6 to 10 grams gold per tonne within 2 to 10 million tonnes of ore.
The data for the following tables have been gleaned from various sources and give an idea of the total range of possible outcomes for the potential targets.
