Thunder Bay -- February 8, 2008 – Press Release
Accurassay Laboratories Completes $1.5 Million Expansion in Thunder Bay
Celebrating 21 years in Thunder Bay, Accurassay Laboratories is pleased to announce completion of a major expansion of their laboratory facilities on Gorham Street in Thunder Bay. Over $1.5 million has been invested in the last two years in high capacity machines and state-of-the-art instrumentation, allowing the company to reduce sample turnaround times and increase its capacity three-fold in the last year alone! Accurassay Laboratories is based in Thunder Bay and provides a mineral analysis service to the Canadian and international mining industry. “Thunder Bay has been a great location for us and we believe the city will continue to be a major centre for mineral assaying”, says company president Rob Duncan. “It’s in the heart of Canada’s booming mineral exploration industry and we look forward to great growth in the years ahead.” The company currently employs over 100 people in its 10,000 ft2 laboratory and is expecting further growth to meet the increasing demand for assaying services.
The laboratory is one of very few assay laboratories accredited to the internationally recognized ISO 17025 guidelines. “We had the option of going for accreditation under ISO 9000 or 17025,” says Dr. George Duncan, founder, “and the easier one was ISO 9000 which measures the lab’s consistency, but we chose the tougher ISO 17025 which measures the laboratory’s ability to produce the correct result rather than just a consistent result. Being consistent is of no value if you are consistently wrong. We wanted our customers to be assured that we were getting it right!”
Accurassay is a Thunder Bay success story achieving 1000% sales growth over the five years ending in 2007. Our local management and staff from Thunder Bay have been instrumental in creating and managing this growth. We wish to thank them and everyone in the Thunder Bay community for their support of our business over the years.
Several satellite facilities have been opened over the last two years and more are planned. Accurassay now draws samples from British Columbia to Newfoundland and from the Canadian Arctic to the Northern United States.
Accurassay Laboratories first opened in 1982 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario to serve the mineral exploration industry with quality analysis for precious (e.g. gold, platinum, palladium) and base metals (e.g. copper, lead, nickel, zinc). An expert in mineral analysis, Dr. George Duncan, opened the Thunder Bay lab to serve the booming mineral exploration industry at that time. Over the years since, Thunder Bay has become the main centre of business for Accurassay. We have enjoyed great success in Thunder Bay over the years and look forward to many more to come.
