RE: buybackMy opinion is that an issuer bid is not necessarily the best way to proceed. The stock price would certainly be impacted to the upside but in the absence of any fundamental progress the share price would undoubtedly drift back down. Also, with no progress on the horizon, many tired shareholders would take the opportunity to dump their shares into the bids, thereby keeping the price from appreciating to any meaningful level. The way for Spur mgmt to generate real significant shareholder value will be to effect some real fundamental progress (obviously). Progress in China would be a good start but they need to move on a project of significant merit in a friendlier jurisdiction sooner rather than later. That way they could generate real value here at home while, at the same time, waiting on the Chinese to grant the required approvals.
