Project Economics Pipeline Dependent?
Project Economics Pipeline Dependent?
If Total is saying the Joslyn project doesn't have the economics to proceed, it makes sense that pipelines are the common denominator driving these economics. I'm not sure what extra capacity the current pipelines can handle but certainly with the delay on the Keystone XL, Northern Gateway, and Energy East Pipelines, this must be considered. The U.S are getting closer and closer to self sufficiency and still can offer Canada a highly discounted price for our oil. If the projected oil production increases from the oil sands are on track, certainly it is possible a bottle neck will happen in shipping that rail transport will not handle.
