What happened in Nagasaki and Hiroshima wasn't an accident, it was a deliberate, cold blooded murder of innocent people and the U.S. government of that era should have been held responsible for war crimes. In fact, the government had been informed by the U.S. military heads that a nuclear strike on Japan was no longer required because the Japanese had lost the war and ready to surrender. When I look back at that event, it looks like the strike wasn't carried out to defeat Japan, but to let the Soviets and others in the world know who was running the show. The positive that came out of that event was that the world knew that a nuclear war not produce a winner, we would all lose. This is why there have been a significant reduction in nuclear weapons and are using for more peaceful such as energy production which is not polluting the air we all breath.
