ADDIS ABABA, May 10 (BERNAMA-NNN-ENA) -- Germany will further strengthen its support for the growth of Ethiopia's agricultural productivity through knowledge and technology transfer, said Federal Minister of Agriculture, llse Aigner.
A German-Ethiopian advanced training centrebased at the Kulumsa Agricultural Research Centre in Arsi Zone was inaugurated by Aignerand Ethiopian State Minister for Agriculture WondyiradMandefro on Thursday.
The German government has allocated a 2.7 million Euro budget for the centre's establishment.
The centre aims to teach farmers about sustainable, site-specific and climate-adapted methods of production, including training with modern technology.
By 2014, the centre, located some 170 km southeast of Addis Ababa, would be able to train some 1,500 farmers.
Aigner, who was leading a German parliamentary delegation to visit the centre, said the centre was a start to ensuring that Ethiopia could develop its farming sector further and become more self-reliant in future.
Mandefro said domestic investors engaged in the agricultural sector in the last four years had been supporting the country's economy through increasing productivity.
The Kulumsa Agricultural Research Centre was distributing crops found through research among farmers, said the minister.
