The Road & River Diversion Program Continues.

August 17 2021.
"This project is being built according to our ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance program) and is therefore designed for a ‘100 year event’ rather the more normal 30 years."

The mine has an expected life span of 90 years, so the forward thinking of Almonty in an expanded drainage system is a clear sign of long term commitment to ensure the mine and towns are safe from flooding the main river with any mine overflows.
The old existing creek was only 6 to 8 feet deep and maybe 10 to 12 feet wide, with no rock reinforcement at all.

Would have been nice to see some pools for fishing and swimming. lol

Er, I don't think that means what you think it means, but I could be wrong. As a rather low ranking combat engineer to me designing for a 100 year versus 30 year event means taking into consideration maximum extreme conditions experienced in any typical 100 year window as opposed to a 30 year one.  Hence, tolerance for more extreme flooding, more powerful earthquakes, etc.  ...more

Whoops.... I spoke to soon on heavy rain events before this one in the area that I saw before your post. But, yes you are right, and I'm happy to have any sort of engineer on this site as I enjoy the mindset. Many thanks GG. https://www.kado.net/news/articleView.html?idxno=1087521 https://www.kado.net/news/articleView.html?idxno=1087522

While working for Alstom Power many years ago, one high ranking engineer wore a t-shirt on the monthly "bad shirt day' event that said "Scientists can only dream of things to become..........but Engineers are the ones that make it happen".
