What RBC Dominin says...(wording..)

In a research note titled Where there’s a will, there’s a way, RBC Dominion Securities analyst Robert Kwan raised his AltaGas Ltd. (

ALA-T +0.79%increase

) target to $31 from $26, keeping an “outperformer” rating. The average target on the Street is $25.70.

“We expect the market to continue to drive AltaGas’ share price higher based on a more positive outlook for Midstream volumes and higher valuations for both Midstream and Utilities, partly driven by recent M&A in the sector,” he said. “On M&A, while it is not the primary strategy, we believe that AltaGas’ willingness to explore value-enhancing opportunities (e.g., asset sales; breaking up the company) will lead to investors being more likely to ascribe higher valuations for AltaGas’ assets (and stock) versus its peers that the market views as unlikely to take similar steps.”

Hey MS! I believe that the BMO analyst Ben Pham was one of the first - if not the first - to put ALA at the top of their BUY list in the midstream category. As for the others - "better late than never". LOL! Cheers to all of the longs who held on to ALA during this roller coaster ride!

I've had ALA for 8-9 yrs and averaged down until it hit over $20.I also found it hard to beleive practically no one considered it a BUY at those levels. They have been executing their plan since the dividend cut and divestiture of non-core assets towards debt reduction.Increasing their share of Petrogas was a no brainer and I now expext annual dividend inceases in the 4-5% range and $30 with ...more

That's pretty much par for the course for analysts, unfortunately. They usually follow the stock trend, being one step behind at all times. They'll have hold/sell ratings when a stock goes sideways/down and they'll have buy ratings when a stock goes up. If you take your investing decisions based on analysts' opinions, imo you miss the real good value stocks and you may buy a ...more
