Would trucking oil in Kenya be profitable?

This project I assume was done at a loss to determine the marketability of Kenya oil but I wonder if it'd be profitable now. Obviously input costs have gone up since then but I'd be curious to know the break even. If I remember correctly they shipped 200,000 barrels. So say that's the base case per month and say profits are $7 a barrel that's 1.4 million a month ($350,000 net to AOI) while creating jobs in Kenya and earning some goodwill. I assume the Trucks are still there and the infrastructure to get it going arnt gone. This wouldn't represent a material amount of revenue but could offset corporate costs.

Looks like they are using iso intermodal containers trucking the oil for transhippment. Nearly all these are made in China so scaling could be an issue then you have the power unit uptime in a world of shortages unless they use Chinese or Ray trucks. Hijacking is a huge risk as sell. They need a pipeline. a lot quote=Lonegaurdian19]This project I assume was done at a loss to determine the ...more

Looks like break even used to be $55 a barrel according to the graphic at the end of this article, so likely around $65-70 with inflation now. The train idea seems interesting and more efficient. https://www.tralac.org/news/article/10717-experts-warn-kenya-against-costly-transport-of-crude-oil-by-trucks.html

Train makes sense though it would need Russian and Chinese steel and tech, and way more costley and lengthy to build and operate than pipelines. Now is the tine to do it! Sadly, like Canada, every scumbag politician and activist wants a piece of the pie and there is not enough to go around so nothing will happen.

yes because as we all know, trains and train lines are high "tech" and the russians and chinese are the only people cpable of building trains, track, pumps etc. no one else to my knowledge has ever done it clearly a conspiracy theorist, which works like this....first get the desired "answer" to any question, in this case "russians and chines" then work backwards i ...more

In regards to putting someone on  " egnore ", i find one has to open the the post, then go to into the egnore process like you mentioned, if one just does it where everyones posts are it doesn't work.

Super confused, y'all don't like trains? Or did I miss something from a user I blocked? Either way, Tullow floated the idea years ago and Kenya kind of killed it with regional objection to how the deal was written.  I would argue that having gotten nothing from nothing, Tullow and said consortium bringing back a new source of revenue for the lease holders and tax recepients would ...more
