Divi Cut

Many companies have cut divis in past e.g SU, ALA, CPG, WCP, VET and many more. All of them have done well after divis were cut. ALA was trading at $8. It had to drop down BC Hydro in addition to divi cut. AQN has much better assets. Best of luck and enjoy your weekend.

Yeah, ALA is doing just dandy; it peaked at over $52 and is trading at $22 and change now. All the divvie cut did for ALA is yank it out of the toilet bowl and set it on the rim.

As usual :Stupid comments'' and   poor bullboard menbers. Just thinking of ALA storey where you miss read the  ALA  ''uphill'' rise  to $ 31 and allways have negative comments. I play the game to $ 30 or so and sold but still having a ''closer'' look at  the storey ! AQN could be the next storey for  '' cleaver' ...more

Hey BS As you know, I totally agree with you on ALA. As I've often mentioned, it's the most disappointing stock we've ever owned. I've seen some bad/lying/cheating management/boards but nothing can come close to ALA, They took a fanatstic Canadian company with fantastic assets and made more than one really stupid take-over, the two biggies being the cr*p in California and WGL ...more

Well SargeX Just looking at ALA the  5 year chart you had a chosen to sell Ala in the fall of  2020 where  the share price was  probably at $ 18  and went up at 31,00 for a   $ 13 gain in less then 15 months later ! Of  course i did average down  all along the down fall and in particular at the  Pandemic announcement  ( $ 11,50) and sold at near ...more

Hey Bossu Yup on our sell price and yes also on the run-up to $31 BUT it is now down to $22.39 which would only be a 24.4% gain. The $31 would have been meanlingless as we don't trade with our main portfolio dough so we never would have sold it at that point if it was a long term hold. As previously mentioned, we put all the dough from ALA into CPX at $29.07 and it's now at $43.56 for a ...more

Hey Sarge, I take it you're not an ALA fan.  However, if you were buying today and overall return was more important than just dividend, would you buy CPX at $43.50 or ALA at $22.50?  That's what I've been pondering the last week or so . . .
Comment by pennydredful on Nov 20, 2022 12:43pm
You  are   on the  wrong  board . AQN  not CPX  or ALA.
Comment by SargeX on Nov 20, 2022 1:08pm
Hey Karl Yup, I don't like ALA even at these prices. CPX has had a great run these last couple years so could be risky from a total return point of view. On the utilities side, if I was after total return, I'd buy EMA instead. (in fact, I added a bit to the grandkids portfolio on Nov 7th at $49.33) Not sure if you just want to stick to Utils but if not, my top 5 picks overall are PPL ...more

Hey Sarge, great score on EMA at $49.33!  I bought some on Friday at $50.87 and I'm content with that.  I think I'll shelve the thoughts on ALA, watch CPX and otherwise continue moving towards big blue chip.  Back to AQN and watching what will happen tomorrow . . .
