I think they'd be better off paying down debt. Thier share count has increased from 60 to 100 million in the past 12 months but thier debt has doubled. If by chance gold price drops and they write down some of thier assets, a lower debt will be much more valuable than a lower share count

Geez Stratochief my daddy had one ....Pontiac Stratochief when I was a kid and we rode it real hard. So since you are such a good armchair quarterback who should I bet on in the games  this afternoon? You mite be more worthwhile to us than your criticism of management. IKE

Yes ur right pontiac stratochief was my first car...bought it when I was in high school. Beautiful car. Those were the days when cars were big enough you could sleep with a gal in the back seat. Now there's no room to stretch out haha. And I'm not being an armchair quarterback. Debt is ugly stuff. Hate to see it on the balance sheet. Seen too many companies get into trouble when times ...more

that debt is dedicated for toro construction and is relatively low interest rate due in 2026 which gives toro plenty of time to pay that debt. remember toro payback period of that initial capital cost us$355 mil is only 2 years. by 2026 toro pays back that entire debt. gcm has around us$60 million excess cash from overfunding of toro debt+wheaton. and more free cash continuously generated by ...more

>>that debt is dedicated for toro construction and is relatively low interest rate due in 2026 which gives toro plenty of time to pay that debt. yes, and not only were the bonds for it issued at the surprisingly nice (low) interest rate of only 6.875%, the stock that was just bought back cancels out a tad over half of that rate in the dividend payout savings. considering this ...more

The ultimate key to a rising share price will be GCM's ability and execution of raising their dividend.  All the share price of any stock represents are the discounted cash flows of the streams of future dividends. Increasing dividends will take care of boosting the share price.  Of course, rising gold prices increase the prospects of rising dividends and will also increase the ...more

that is a good point. buying back debt saves only 6.875%. compared to buying back shares saves 3.5%, decreases dilution, increases earnings per share, keeps away the shorters, and provides support when the market goes crazy. the second option buys a lot more. just reducing dilution is good reason enough, the other stuff is a bonus.
Comment by Stratocheif on Dec 30, 2021 12:49pm
Depends on how you see things. Depends on gold price and sentiment. Today is today but one or 2 years out no one can predict. If gold falls a couple of hundred the shorters will pile in there even if share count is 5 or 10% less. And in such scenario the longs will sell because suddenly u have a small company with 300 million of debt that they are servicing at 6.875% while profits are plunging ...more

>>  Look at what's happening with argonault seriously?  you want to try and compare this to a company run by an incompent CEO (who was fired over its crazy x2 capex blowout, btw) ? serafino know a thing or two about better estimating (and containing or reducing) capex costs, in case you didn't know or haven't figured it out yet...

continue to trust gcm's management.
Comment by invest234 on Dec 30, 2021 4:33pm
what you are essentially arguing against is how they financed toro. if instead of $300 mil debt at 6.875%, they financed toro without debt by printing out $300 mil in share dilution at cdn$5 share price and paying 3.5%, you would be much happier with that massive share dilution paying 3.5% just so they don't have debt? toro pea is for $1500 gold. if you really think gold will drop much lower ...more

argo's magino study was done years ago without knowing what happened with recent inflation. gcm's toro study was done very recently, and pre-feas in the immediate future q1.

Agreed invest234  but you have to remember that was just updating a study I think  10 years ago by previous company and when Serafino was on the board of directors GCM had a good amount of shares and Wheaton heavily involved in both studies. At the time I think gold was around 1300 and it very really looked like a gem if gold solidly at 1500 IKE
Comment by invest234 on Dec 30, 2021 7:55pm
no idea what you are talking about, magino or toro. gcm with shares and wheaton are not the ones who did the updated pea. the updated pea was done by independent geologists from SRK and Nordmin and is effective November 26, 2021 which is very recent. it supercedes any study done 10 years ago. "The MRE, which is effective from November 1, 2021, supersedes all previous MREs and Technical ...more
