RE:RE:Mine accident

RE:RE:Mine accident

Tomorrow, the mining company Gran Colombia Gold expects to be back in full operation, following the accident of an elevator that left 21 workers injured.

Lombardo Paredes Arenas, director of the company, told EL COLOMBIANO that the incident was due to a fault in one of the cables that makes the elevator work, however he admitted that it will be necessary to conclude the investigation to know what caused the damage. "We will have to establish the circumstances of the case, because the cable allows the movement of the device and this is checked daily." Once the inquiries have been completed, approximately one week, they will be brought to the attention of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the company's board of directors and the insurer (Sura).

Of the 21 accident victims, the businessman said that three were delicate and had to be transferred by helicopter to a medical center in Medelln.

The incident occurred at the Providencia mine, located in the Marmolejo sector of the municipality of Remedios in the northeast of Antioquia, and according to Paredes, it is the first serious problem it has faced since being appointed director of Gran Colombia Gold in 2014.

In March the company produced a total of 21,325 ounces of gold, which brought the total for the first quarter of 2019 to 60,601 ounces, which represented a new quarterly record and an increase of 15% during the first quarter of 2018.
