One of these days, and soon, ATH will be gone

Just my 2 cents but the latest move at hangingstone reads to me like a housekeeping move. Any day now I'm going to fire up my computer and read about a merger, takeover, privatization, or whatever. The discrepancy between the current valuation and the asset value is just too great. A year ago I joked if someone would lend me $100 million I'd take ATH private. If only , I'd be a billionaire today. Being a small cap "oilsands" producer carries too high of a political penalty to the stock price. Buried in a CNQ or some other ravenous cash stuffed producer just makes more sense. Or just getting out of the public eye into private equity hands. It also explains the golden parachute refill of options for management and it explains the otherwise needless foot dragging on the refinancing. Oh well, it's been almost a 7 bagger already, a 10 bagger seems "low ball" now, but we'll all find something else to chase next. Just my 2 cents, perhaps in another year, I'll have the same speculation but from a price that's a double from here. GLTA.

With so much upside why do this now? Private I hope not shareholders don't do well....merger maybe ..takeover maybe but why didn't it happen when SP was depressed. I think more upside will occur before this happens and refinance. Someone is taking over solid realestate and a solid company. I say this will happen at 2.50 SP

I agree with max. This "news" revealed the other days is nothing special and could have waited for Q2 report. Management is most definitely showing something to someone. We shall find out shortly. I hope this doesn't go private. OR we end up like raging river shareholders...

My two cents on the topic is that there is something happening now. Why else is ATH in the top 10 in trading volumes on the tsx as a small oil producer. This isn't by chance.

Posturing for refinancing? Guess only!

Exactly this.  They are broadcasting their soundness.  Increase competition on the refi.   I dont mind being taken-out eventhough there's huge potential for this company.  If someone is willing to pay a 50-100% premium today, that just means we can dump the money on the next horse.  By end of 2022, we'll have enough money to repay the notes.  Then we ...more

The bonds trading over 90 is also a hint of what's coming. There are too many hints to be coincidence. But yeah, if I'm wrong, the stock just goes up because the company is a cash beast. Oh well. Some desk jockey at equinor/Statoil must have got a hard boot out the door. What a bonehead sale at 18. Only one dumber is a short. Equinor lost their investment, shorts have unlimited losses ...more

Ahhhh.  Ok. But on what board will I be posting it. Maybe TMX. I assume you mean trans mountain, not the exchange.
Comment by fellowship on May 11, 2021 4:11pm
Transmountain for sure.

TOOT TOOT ! Yup, I'm tooting my own horn. This post below was from may 11th when the stock had just popped from 50 to a stratospheric 70 in under 2 weeks. Well, this must be as good as it gets, was the very common belief and yes I was tempted to "trim". But looks like 70 was a bargain. I expect the same will be true of $1 level 6 months from now, or sooner, so I'm holding long. I ...more

Based on all the normal valuation metrics ATH is undervalued, but so are most Canadian oil and gassers with the possible exception of TOU. The market, despite all the indications that oil and gas may be in short supply, still hates these names. It's hard to believe that 10 years ago it was normal to value companies at ~$75,000 to $100,000 per flowing barrel. Some US names are in that range but ...more

Cheers boys! I'm mostly a silent observer, but this is cause for celebration. A friend and I bought 300k shares each back when atha was trading at 0.12 to 0.15. I only recently sold 50k shares to fund another investment, but I still think there is a lot more up side to go from here. It was pretty exciting buying atha back think and thinking of the prospects, and laughing my butt off when the ...more
