I just want to answer your question as to "why would anyone buy them now when in a couple years they will be bankrupt".

Buffet & Ichan have both made billions by buying companies in similar positions as Atlantic Power. When you do simple addition and subtraction, you can clearly identify a minimum of $1.1 billion in assets after all debt is paid. Assets such as this would be sold at a premium to their immediate value; any buyout would be greatly in excess of $3.00 per share - regardless of dividend cut or not.

I have made purchases at $4.50, $3.10 (on US), and again today at $3.20.
