EDGEPOINT WEALTH

I find it odd they are a 10% owner now given the desire of such a fund to limit company risk,  specifically artis with a poor capital structure,  unproven management that bought public securities before solidifying balance sheet etc.  Not to mention dividend sustainability at 100% affo payout.They could have easily diversified into many Canadian reits. 

My initial feeling is this move is tied to strategic review in some capacity.  Might be some open channels with Sandpiper on the way forward.  

I would love to see them get to 20%. They wouldn't make these decisions based on a "bet".

Looks like they were big buyers again today. 6 figure TD block trade. I wonder if they lapsed in going over 10% as Artis appears to have filed the deleted units very late on SEDI - so they may have made a mistake by calculating the units on the market/threshold. I know Artis' late deletions filings messed me up as I was using the wrong numbers to calculate unitcount. Or it got so cheap and ...more

Yes someone was buying artis 500k volume while most reits tanked hard. I don't think they'll stop at 10%.  Probably going to be involved in privatization or go activist on Sandpiper

TD did over 50% of the cumulative volume yesterday with a 128,000 block trade alone. They were buying lots very aggressively by the looks of it. Now picking up anything they can buy. Wonder what's coming down the pipeline.......I'm sure they have better intel than most of us.

Perhaps they have analyzed it carefully and arrived at a different conclusion to yours Gary. They like what they see.... a lot. Close to 70 million worth.

Almost certainly just a portfolio purchase IMO.  And a smart buy at that.  The upside for Artis far exceeds any downside risk, and unitholders are paid handsomely to wait.  Of course a statement from Edgepoint Wealth would be welcome.   Failing that, I expect Edgepoint to be a formidable ally among minority investors in ensuring we don't get ripped off.
