RE: Pretend you're the CEO I think you are forgetting to look at contacts rolling off. Currently I believe most folks have contracts (hardware/services). If you are a RIM legacy customer what are you going to do? Get a new phone which is much better than the old hardware? You bet. But probably will "try" something new, and forego the newer RIM products. Would an iphone customer go back to RIM, probably not.
RIM's lack of a comprehensive marketing statement is a real shame. I too went into a number of wireless stores in the GTA core pretending to be a buyer. The message was consistent no one is buying RIM handsets, get a real phone. I do not care how good the new RIM phones will ever be, RIM is going to continue to get pounded. RIM needed the new phones 6 months ago. Even if they are superior, no one cares, and no one is listening. Too bad, a real shame.
RIM is a company that is broken, I am out. The bad news just keeps seeping under the door. Management had an opportunity to clean house and write off all the bad stuff, the new CEO was given the benefit of the doubt, honeymoon is over. The bad smells keep on oozing, and the media is ruthless. Too bad I like my Torch and Playbook, but I like my cash much better.
Think I will wait for Apple to stumble, then short them. Good luck to the diehards.
