RE:Huge interest for the “The DTEK50" in the UKNot to play "devil's advocate" but I think I must at the very least point out that we have heard all sorts of comments like this before. So, until I hear about numbers, it's all hyperbole that's been made in the past many times.
I am optimistic about this device due to the simple fact that BlackBerry designed the device and added it's software and security, but that is all they have had to do with it really. I suspect (and Chen has pretty much confirmed) that BlackBerry has very little exposure to possible negative financial outcomes. BlackBerry is likely getting a cut from each device sold and as long as they sell enough to offset the design and marketing costs as well as any R&D, it will be a success in BlackBerry's eyes. Their partner will need to sell a different amount in order to offset their manufacturing costs etc.
I'm optimistic, but I'm not falling for the same tricks anymore.
The proof of success will be in the numbers plain and simple, everything else is noise.
