RE:Nokia makes 800 million a year from its 30,000 patentsThat's interesting cadillaccoupe. NOK makes $800 mil/year on it's patents (roughly 30,000)
Blackberry has 44,000 patents and they're newer and possibly more relevant.
In the past, Blackberry hasn't done a good job of monetizing it's patents. Likely because they didn't need to license them in the past and when they have, they usually let people use them for far less than they should have.
Chen has made it one of his main goals to monetize, license and defend it's intellectual property (IP) and we have seen that with new licensing deals with Cisco and others and in their defense against Avaya and BLU and against Ryan Seacrest's "Typo" PKB for iphones.
In the future, I suspect Blackberry will make even more money from monetizing and protecting it's patents from other corporations. I also believe that Blackberry has a long runway when it comes to this process and may even surpass NOK's ability to make money from them.
