RE:Ford to ditch MSFT for BB QNX

RE:Ford to ditch MSFT for BB QNXFord to ditch Microsoft for BlackBerry’s QNX

Ford Motors is reportedly planning to dump Microsoft’s Windows for BlackBerry’s QNX operating system for its next-generation Sync in-car system, due to software issues.

The US automaker has been criticised for in-car technology glitches in its current system, which is based on Microsoft’s technology.

Ford spokeswoman Susannah Wesley said in a statement to The Detroit News that Ford and Microsoft are longtime partners, and will continue working together for the future.

"Ford works with a variety of partners and suppliers to develop and continuously improve our in-car connectivity systems for customers," Wesley said.

"We do not discuss details of our work with others for competitive reasons."

BlackBerry’s QNX operating system is already offered in BMW and Audi vehicles and it is also integrated in car radios, while other automakers are also collaborating with other tech firms including Google and Apple.
