RE: Bombardier Boosts its Service Network in LatinHi Jjeerryy, thanks for that heads up on the aftermarket services deal.
This kind of thing gets too little attention, but it's efforts like this which tend to build a solid foundation for the company's products.
Bombardier, and General Dynamics' Gulfstream go head to head in the upper end of the business jet market with each taking more than a 25% share. Last year GD purchased a large international outfit, Jet Aviation, which specializes in servicing and parts of business jets - including both Gulfstream and Bombardier products.
It's something that gives Gulfstream a certain advantage, and Bombardier probably realizes that.
Imagine on your next trip to your local mechanic with car trouble, your friendly local mechanic tells you that you he thinks you shoulda bought a Ford...or whatever...you might not be swayed, but it could be enough to make some people give that option a little more weight next time they buy.
Ease of getting aircraft serviced is a prime consideration for experienced customers of business jets. Services presents one of the biggest potential profit drivers for BJ manufacturers in the years ahead. BBD has it's work cut out for it in trying to catch up to GD's Jet Aviation which is the world's largest such provider, but any effective effort in this direction should help.
