AC vs BBD

Air canada got cheap money from government because the government has put flight restrictions that have hurt airlines to fly and make money. AC has lost revenue because of government regulations. Bombardier lost revenue due to badly managed programs. No regulations has been put in place to shut Bombardier factories down. AC jobs impact the country and bombardier mostly in Quebec and Ontario.

AC went bankrupt and started over with no debt...we always say bbd was badly managed because of exceeds of cost and delays in developing the cseries, tell me they are the only ones who do this? They ALL do this, we just hear about it more and b..tch about it like 13 yo...

So do you want bbd to go bankrupt and start over with no debt? I definitely dont. AC bailout allows all Canadian who had bought tickets to get paid back and AC employees jobs preserve. Baling out bombardier will not help average tax payer who had their AC flights cancelled and no refund. AC is more essential then bombardier to regular Canadian. EU, USA, and various other airlines gave money to ...more

I actually have no problem with AC getting $$$ and agree with all you are saying, It's the fact that if bbd had recieved 1/10th of what they got we would never hear the end of it, welfare...taxpayer money...mismanaged blaw blaw blaw...

This is like you mentioned the pt’it peuple mentality at its best, that makes us afraid and jealous of success. A lot of people make their opinions according to those of the talking heads they listen to. Scapegoats and bad news sell well, so the scavengers keep writing negative press about Bombardier and they watch every step the company makes hoping it will trip so that they can write about it.  ...more

And bbd had to compete to sell their shiny new planes against HIGHLY subsidised competitors that had no problem running them to the ground because of our lack of support and vision.
Comment by stockitnow on Apr 13, 2021 11:05am
EADS was created with EU government money and Boeing has large US military contracts and customer base. Knowing this bombardier went poking both bees nest. The Canadian Government never signed up to support or subsidies c series but they did but it wasn't enough. Unfortunately Canada doesn't have the market, nor a large tax revenue to support such projects. This is why Canadian government ...more

The problem is that you see this sector as a normal economical sector that should be treated with liberal rules. But it s not.  It s strategic sector for states who want to be global or regional power. USA have Boeing, Europe Airbus, China COMAC, India HAL, Turkey have TAI... They all invest (Or subside if you want) the sector with a global or regional power objective.  The problem ...more

What you say is especially true about BBD management making bad decisions and therefore are not worthy of the extra financial assistance. However, your first sentence could apply to so many businesses that are hurting and failing due to government mandated shutdowns, many which are well run operations and yet they won't receive extra special monetary treatment. Think about all the indoor ...more

At the time of the CSeries fire sale, I remember saying "MOTHBALL" the program take the losses, after delivering the sold CSeries planes then, stop production. This would have been a tough decision to make at the time. But we would still have had the CSeries, and maybe Boeing, would have paid a fortune to buy it, when the 7 Dirty 7 was grounded. Even if Boeing wouldn't have paid the ...more

It is my belief that the government's want to and absolutely should assist Bombardier but because the media - in Toronto especially - have tarnished (to say the least) the company's reputation in the eyes of the public - it would be political suicide to do so while the controlling shareholders remains in charge. They'd rather promote the scoring prowess of 2 hockey players than laud ...more

Amen Pablo Amen...and for you small investors worried about the recent drop, you can relax. you will make money with this, the playing field for bizzjet is level....bbd has amazing planes and they will sell, you just need to be patient.

Unfortunately Bombardier will always need Government handouts and has had them for decades. If taxpayers don't mind paying for this then Bombardier could last a bit longer. IMO they will sell off whats left soon. The owners and employees have had a great run, as for shareholders not so much..
Comment by Julyb60 on Apr 13, 2021 3:14pm
BiggyG never forget that many shareholders are Bombardier employees (actual, retiree and others) and, as oppose to you (obviously), knowledgeable of this industry and still believer of Bombardier future. Frankly.... I dont understand how come you put and leave your money in BBD...  Constructive comments are welcome here but bashers OUT !!

Another knuckle dragger complaint. There are not many Canadians willing to go up against the big boys in this world and in doing so it is common to acquire government aid to grow jobs and a tax base here. Did BBD mess up? Absolutely, but they are digging themselves out of it on their own this time and have paid dearly as they ride with just one asset now. In the meantime, they continue to employ ...more

Si BiggyG anything to add on the 6 BILLION handout AC just got from the Feds?
Comment by Skyisthelimite on Apr 13, 2021 4:16pm
For AC employes/shareholders out there I personally have no problem with the help our gvt provides AC as a key industry it's the fact that as soon as it's for bbd it's a considered handout.
Comment by flamingogold on Apr 13, 2021 4:27pm
If BBD gets anything, it will come post election and last in line. First the govt sent heaps of free money to the common folk (CERB, CESB), now it's essential businesses (LEEFF) followed by every other business. Then, while everyone is busy investing their free dollars into the economy maybe, just maybe BBD gets help in some form, maybe a low rate loan. At that point anyone complaining is just ...more

i do not trust canadian or quebec gov imo, if they offer any form of help, it will not be meaningfull or terms will not be acceptable by bbd i hope i am wrong but when it come to bbd, gov never really helped, if they wanted to help it was easy , get bbd loans at 0-1.5% as france did for Alstom on two occasions if they got bbd 10 billion $ loans at 0-1.5%, they would get back 5 billions with ...more

Don't get me going on the AC bailout what a debacle. I am sure Canada Post is having a party at taxpayers expense. Trudeau loves to buy votes. Oh and he loves to buy pipelines. He does not have a clue what he is doing. Oh right he has someone who has no idea about finance (our money) as Finance minister....nuff said
