Air Canada stock is flying - Maher

Air Canada stock is flying - Maher"Why...criticize/comment on every statement made by others?"

You exaggerate to make a point. No one criticizes every statement.

However, critical thinkers should try to question what's important in an effort towards trying to understand as much about the company's businesses as possible.

Attacking the person is a common fallacy usually employed by people who have priorities other than finding the truth.

I apologize if my response seemed to attack you personally.

That was not and has never been my intention - with anyone. I'm interested only in finding the truth, but you don't get at the truth by sitting back and saying nothing out of fear of offending others.

It is only through persistently questioning what is said that we can gain a better understanding. Things should make sense.

I spend a lot of time researching this company and work really hard at trying to understand it.  I've followed the commercial and business jet industries for more than two decades and I've posting my comments on these and other forums for more than ten years. I've owned Bombardier for 21 years and have followed the industry even longer.

I'm opinionated.  I tend to get into more detail than many people have the patience for, but no one is under any obligation to listen to me or respond.   I take issue with anything which I believe is interesting and try to explain things to the best of my understanding for the benefit of not just the person I'm responding to, but also the larger number of investors who might be reading the board out of an interest in investing in the company.

Usually there is a much larger number of people reading a discussion board than the single person you are responding to. It makes sense to me to address your concerns to the larger audience than just the person  who's post you are responding to.

"Investing is not a religion...where we are wrong and you are right".  I try not to look at things in terms of black and white. Usually there's a lot more shades of grey. Usually there is good evidence to suport some ideas more than others. And some people are more practiced, or maybe have more time to invest in trying to express themselves precisely.  I agree that doesn't necessarily make their views necessarily any better than anyone else's.

Credibility comes with getting the facts straight.

I'm not concerned with whether you own Embraer or Bombardier. But if you express a strong view such as the idea that Embraer is generally superior to Bombardier you it seems reasonable to expect some response to that statement.

As someone who has owned and followed both companies closely for many years, I have some thoughts about this too. And I don't see Embraer as a superior investment to Bombardier - as I described in my previous post.

"Two years ago I would have...

I sold 30%..."

No one is trying to convince you to do any differently than you deem appropriate in the context of what you already know.  What any single poster here does is insignificant.  Even if we all moved together the total value of what we do would not amount to anything more than a single drop of rain hitting the ocean.

The only thing we can do here is learn something about Bombardier by discussing it.  And it is in the nature of discussion boards to focus on the negative rather than the positive. By that I mean you don't hear too many people chiming in to say "Hey, yeah, I agree with you..." What motivates people to speak up tends to be when someone disagrees with what has been said.

I'm sure you and I agree on more than you realize, but it's where we disagree that tends to arise in  any discussion.

Maybe we could spend more time on pointing out where we agree for a more balanced approach. I guess the reason we don't is that most of us - even if we post a lot - feel pressed for time.

"Two years ago if anyone had told me that Bombardier is a bad investment I would have disagreed. Today I am not too sure."

A few years ago Bombardier represented even more risk/reward potential than it does today.  Today it may, as you say, represent less reward potential, or it may represent more, however, it is important to keep in mind that risk  potential is often comensurate with reward potential.

I'll continue to responding to any post I choose. In my view, Bombardier represents good value here.
