RE: Not an easy feat selling these - aero1spaceHi A1S, I don't think the Superjet has that many firm orders. Unless they received a few big orders just recently and you include the optional orders - which usually aren't counted as backlog until they're firmed up with a deposit (which makes them firm orders).

They were however, hoping for a big order from Alitalia. Still this close to production 190 isn't all that impressive. CSeries already has close to that many orders if we include options and it is only now approaching the sweetspot in terms of the period in which the bulk of orders can be expected to materialize.

None of the new entries - including those from Mitsubishi of Japan, and Comac of China, are expected to be a serious threat to the established players. Although they may do reasonably well in garnering domestic orders they don't have the brand recognition or the reputation for consistently building quality products that North American and European manufacturers do.

In the years ahead that should gradually change as these companies gradually build out both their experience and their reputations in designing and developing aerospace expertise. It may surprise us and happen sooner than is generally expected, but a reputation for building top quality, reliable aircraft isn't something you acquire overnight.
