Well, that's one possibility. My guess is it doesn't really matter that much. Re engining could play to C Series' advantage if it means the larger manufacturers will take longer to build completely new designs. New designs would create more competition because they'd probably be more cleaner, quieter, more fuel efficient aircraft.

And C Series will be successful enough by simply competing more effectively with Embraer's E-190. Any marketshare it can take beyond that in the larger size categories might well be considered extra.

"C-series will have to compete with second hand planes.  So those airlines that don't have deep pockets, will most likely go with the second hand planes."

Yes, either way CSeries has certain advantages.
