BBD - The Myth and The Misleading

BBD - The Myth and The MisleadingIrrational postings to this board seem to be proliferating recently. A lot of nonsense gets presented with great emphasis and is even reasonably well worded. That doesn't make it accurate.

Don't believe everything you read.

Rhetoric is a form of persuasion that tries to base its case on emotion rather than sound reasoning.  Many people seem to believe they can have some short term influence on a company's share price by writing creative posts to this board.

You should make up your mind about Bombardier on the basis of your own independent analysis - not a post that amounts to little more than a sales pitch geared to induce you to believe what somebody else would like you to believe. Many posters have a vested interest in getting you to believe one thing or another.

As a long term shareholder of Bombardier, I too have a vested interest which biases the comments in my posts. So, in the same way, you should evaluate my comments critically and in the context of a certain degree of optimism.

Credibility is something that you earn. Most readers appreciate consistency in accuracy. You lose credibility with each inaccuracy you post. Nobody gets everything perfect, but you can do well investing by getting the most important considerations right.

In more than ten years of posting on Bombardier, I've seen a lot of critics and naysayers come and go. They tend to post a lot of heavy critiques of the company, its management, and anyone who tries to defend the business case for Bombardier. Then they disappear. That, or they change their Stockhouse name to renew their attacks without the burden of their previous inaccuracies.

At any given time there are probably as many critics posting here as long term buy and hold shareholders. Some are short the stock, some may be shareholders of competitors, others are simply trying to push the share price down in order to climb aboard at a lower entry price.

These people will intentionally mislead you. Be skeptical. Believe only what might seem to fit with what you already know to be the case, and then only if you can confirm what is being said from a few other sources.

Those who believe they can influence the share price by what they say here are flailing in the dark. Individuals control only a tiny percentage of Bombardier's share total. The Bombardier family controls the company by owning most of the A shares. Of the remaining shares which are pubically traded about 80% are held by institutional investors. Of the remaining tiny percentage only a fraction ever read what is posted to these boards.

And even if you could encourage someone to buy or sell, that would simply result in the stock then representing greater value, and thus increase the liklihood the next investor would want to buy it.

So, why bother to discuss anything?

Because we can learn something by sharing information. Institutional investors have an advantage in the fact that they have access to much more information (reports etc...) than little guys like you and I. But we can raise our chances of success by sharing info, and helping each other learn something about the company.
