RE:RE:RE:Boeing Downgraded: Things You Need to Know

The Russian Federal Agency for Air Transport (Rosaviatsiya) may ban Russian airlines from flying the Boeing 737, local media said on Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A request to revoke the Boeing 737 (both Next Generation and Classic) flying certificate was sent by Artyom Kiryanov, a Russian Civic Chamber committee chairman, to Rosaviatsiya Head Alexander Neradko, as well as Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) Chair Tatiana Anodina, the Izvestia newspaper reported.

Concerns over Boeing's safety were once again sparked following a crash of Flydubai Boeing 737-800 at Russia’s Rostov-on-Don airport on March 19.

The request called on both regulator heads to coordinate with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in ensuring safety standards for the aircraft, as well as asking the Boeing Company to clarify the plane's technical details, especially regarding its rudders, according to the publication.

The IAC requested the Boeing 737 to be suspended from flying in November, following its investigation into Boeing's rudder system initiated after a 737 operated by Russia's Tatarstan Airlines crashed in 2013.

The Boeing 737 is the world's most mass-produced passenger aircraft. Over 100 737s are operated by Russian airlines, according to Rosaviatsiya.
