RE:RE:RE:Boeing to cut 737 Max productionTotal denial of the extent of the problem with the Max. It is a totally flawed design. Boeing conned the FAA, and all the customers with thinking a computer program could compensate for the flaw in the basic design. Not only will Boeing be faced with lawsuits and even criminal charges, they will have permanently lost the confidence of much of the world as to their honesty.
Who will believe them when they say they fixed the problem? I actually think they have a fix (double the sensors and make it easier to override the computer) HOWEVER, they are delaying it to make it seem like they are actually working harder on the issue. And of course the fix was previously known and sold as optional equipment!!!
So my thinking is that a LOT of those 5000 Max orders will disappear. Probably many will be changed to other planes (ie the 737 non Max) and some will just be going to the competition. Pax will have lost confidence in the plane and airlines WILL notice. As well Boeing WILL start on the 737 replacement design. They simply have to. Not that you will hear much about it at all. I expect them to continue to promote the Max but work on a new design to be available in maybe 7 years. They would then simply allow the Max to die and all unfilled orders to be switched over.
MEANWHILE, Airbus could be starting the ball rolling on the 500. Secretly. When the Max investigation is over (poss. a year from now), they could have a fair outline of the concept by the 2020 Airshow with a year or 2 until entry into service. The engineering would of course be by Bombardier.
That beats out Boing by a huge mile. It also makes sense as production of the 100s and 300s would be at top rate by 2021 with Delta, Air Canada, and possibly Moxy and Jetblue all flying around the USA in the Cseries. With 200 or 300 Cseries in service around the globe.
What an opportunity.
I do hate to profit from the tragedy of others. However, in this case the corrupt and criminal actions of Boeing has them deserving of being trampled.
