Shorts don't really need a reason to short when the stock is being ignored by investors and the rules are set up as they are.
The reasons you are alleging are much more conspiracy than really fact and at the same time supplyin fodder to the shorts.
In reality I don't care which ever way it goes in the short term as I have been playing this very short term for quite a while now and will continue as the opportunity presents itself no matter what dooms day scenario is presented here by some self appointed gurus bloating of their their success in relative to the pain of others
What a good feeling they must have of themselves..
