Trying to understand shorting

Trying to understand shortingI have never shorted a stock. Never really attracted me. Seemed so negative. Experiencing glee when a stock drops whereas to me a drop in stock is loss to investors and possible layoffs for workers. Why would something so negative be a cause of glee. And I see the shorters who show up here on stockhouse that seem so deceitful and manipulative.

Anyway, I got to see a movie called DUMB MONEY about a guy investing in GameStop. At the end of the day, he made he made north of $40 million. The stock went from about $2 to almost $500 per share. It involved a short squeeze. The shorts had to buy back shares at higher and higher prices and the stock took off.

I really enjoyed the movie.

Have a great weekend
