US Elections

What a zoo these Republicans have turned the US, into. It's a disfunctional Democracy. Thanks to one man.

I think that you have that wrong. It is quite far from a democracy with a 2 tier judicial system and a white racist religious evangelical mob. They espouse the direct opposite of Christian teachings. They are America's answer to the Iranian moulas.

If that's the case as you are describing it, or similaritizing the Iranian Mullah, to the Republican Party??? Then the US is in worse shape than I've described. Hopefully the electorate as a whole, have the sense to see through the Republican Party, and go Democrat in this election. I can't picture this mob rulling the US, with this crazy autocrat as their commander-in-chief. I ...more

The problem in America is that a large number of white people, be they rich or poor, cannot accept the fact that they will soon be in the minority in the country and are willing to do anything to reman in power. 1) by restricting the votes of non white people through legistration or gerrymandering and threats of personal harm. It's more than likely that there will by a partition of the county ...more

Well, you've started it and it requires a little sanity somewhere, so this board is as good as any and here goes.Donald Trump appears to be hardwired to perform calumny, detraction and slander with panache worthy of any blas gossipmonger. The “christian” right gobbles it up with a fervor usually reserved for fanatics of another stripe. I hope there is an awakening for them. BTW, what also ...more

you do understand that that one man has to be elected by ~50% of the population who believe in his BS message and lies right?
Comment by flyman12 on Apr 02, 2024 3:55pm
Not quite accurate. If there are 3 people running, as will be the case, then he can be elected with as little as 35% of the  60 odd % of people who actually vote.
Comment by vonSachsenanhal on Apr 02, 2024 4:13pm
You ever heard of the electoral college system? It's not a popular vote contest, so no way can Trump be elected with 35% of the vote. Kennedy, in any case, is DOA.
Comment by flyman12 on Apr 02, 2024 5:15pm
While the college determines the president, gerrymandering the vote can determine which party wins the state. It has nothing to do with who wins the popular vote as was demonstrated in the past 6 or 7 elections.

yup hence I said ~50% NOT >50%.  46.1% and 46.8% of votes in 2016 and 2020 respectively were for Trump.  My point is its not 1 person Trump responsible, but ~50% of the voting population voted for Trump.   Same applies in Canada, we had a massive amount of the population responsible for electing Trudumb and Singy.
