Red Deer

It is from and OLD Life insurance policy ALL PAID UP. Bought it when I was 28 years old. The insurance policy is $150,000.00. They wanted me to pay 6.5% but, Its my money so, agreed to 5.1%

Too many questions.  Did you have kids?  If married, was your wife independently financially secure?  Or was your estate sufficient to support her?  Did you have other dependents, like aged parents? Everybody has different needs.  When I was young and naive I bought a small whole life policy.   It had some tax advantages but a piddling return.  I did enjoy ...more

I had young children at the time 3. Still married to same woman. My parents were in the 50ish. No I was not financial secured. It was my wife that said to take out insurance. It was cheap at the time because of age. I had a great job and the wife was working PT. Bought 2 houses made a killing. 6 sisters 3 brothers. I bought IBM when I was 26 years old. Sold it all. Hey GRIZZ__We raised 3 kids with a stay at home mom__NO inheritances, we were on our own in that regard back then. One reason for no LIFE was that the small amount provided by my employment with AB Gov I deemed to be sufficient as we lived way below our means lifestyle from get go__Thus did NOT need as much as pretty much everyone else our age with young kids. Pretty much the same here - two kids, stay at home Mom for nine years.  Of course you are right - I forgot I also had insurance at work (but supplemented that with the term).  Living below your means is key.  I could never get over how much other people spent.  Unless you have a trust fund it's best not to act as if there's an inheritance coming.  My dad didn' ...more

Hey GRZZ__Sure looks like You DID Manage your affairs Very Well too! Here are some more Non-Conventional things I have done over the past almost 5 decades now. Once Mom passed and I lived alone I figured there is virtually no risk anymore__So Cancelled my FIRE Insurance__And even if we get the Long OverDue BIG ONE out here and my house is a TOTAL WriteOff__Still WILL Have the Land Value ...more
