Anyone know how BEK pays its div with a 200% payout? Chance of div being cut in the near future?
Also, what are the chances of a buyout or sale of assets? My crystal ball is foggy....

Hi One, dividend is safe.  Bek has a large cash position, Couche Tard stocks, no debt and has never missed a dividend payout in its history.  The dividend payout ratio is high because they have been liquidating properties and cash flow has dropped.  Buyout is anybody's guess we have a shrinking company, a CEO that is pushing 90 years old, a CFO that is in his 80s.  Many of ...more

Pretty succinct and accurate..except I don't think Brian's hit 80 yet. To add to what Charlie said, this seems to me to be some kind of estate plan unfolding. There was some talk of a company sale some years back, and the properties where formally studied and documentation was prepared to satisfy potential due diligence concerns  But no buyer emerged...well one was making waves with ...more

Septua, octo and nonna....I think I saw them in a comedy once.....or was that Curly, Larry and Moe? In France they have the Viager system - where you make installments on a house until the owner dies....in this case the instalments are being paid to the shareholders but the payoff is still when the owners sell or shuffle off this mortal coil, or so it would seem....
