one theory

The mines were actually placed on the pipelines months ago during the BALTOPS naval exercise when lots of NATO ships were in the area to provide cover. 
They were just waiting until the Norway-Poland gas pipeline was completed. The Germans insisted on that because they wanted to have an alternative source for gas. Once that happened, the mines were remotely detonated and the pipelines destroyed.

At 02:48 in the morning on the 26th of September 2022, a US Military Boeing P-8 Poseidon circled over the Nord Stream sites after refuelling with a Stratotanker a few hours earlier over Polish airspace. It may have originated from the Lossiemouth airbase in Scotland, which has a Poseidon tactical operation centre and RAF Poseidon squadrons.
