Why the C's traded above par for several years?

1)  Like now, no one believes Brookfield will redeem.
2)  Crazy yield

But, Ya, you have the threat of redemption so that puts pressure on how far above par shares can go.  

In a short squeeze on ill-liquid shares that have been called in for redemption....how far above par they will go????  Don't know.   On one hand they are being redeemed for only $25.   On the other hand you have a large short outstanding balance that must be bought back in a given time frame.

Who know what the share price will do?

The issue we are having is you have built this short squeeze scenario in your mind castle.  Nothing close to a squeeze will ever happen with prefs. Read up on the GameStop squeeze and then tell me how the same could happen with prefs.  HInt: massive trading vols and options.  Market makers -- both stock and option traders -- are allowed to trade naked and find shares later.  ...more

Sonoffergus, I made up this crazy "short squeeze" scenario of the T's going to $10,000.... just to try to hammer home to Pierre that   CAPITAL GAINS  should be a significant, if not the MAIN deciding factor in determining Taxes and which account to put BPO. The T's are Pierre's BEST performer out of all his holdings.   My guess, a significant, if not ...more

But but but CRAZY, what you describe as "right in front of you" is in the rear-view mirror. It is easy to decide what would have been best with the benefit of hindsight.   I bought a bunch of different BPO series in December in the hope that (1) tax-loss selling had pushed prices down too far and (2) 2024 would bring investors back to real estate given the general view that ...more
