Is anyone getting greedy?

I've got a pretty balanced portfolio. Well, I used to. Lots of safe divvy paying blue chips. And I'm doing well on all of them. But the damn oil stocks have grown so much that I'm way overweight oil.
But here's the thing. I'm thinking about selling off some of that blue chip money and redirecting it to oil. Some of the blue chip stuff I've done really well on for blue chip stocks. The bounces off the pandemic lows in banks have been really sharp. I keep looking at the overall situation and thinking generational opportunity and I'm thinking more about some greedy moves. Any long term balanced portfolio guys want to talk me out of that, or talk some sense in to me lol

Getting greedy! 2 rocks at current price and a triple would be life changing!

I dont think you are going to find many long term balanced portfolio guys here. I'm not the only one up over 300% over the last year. All in energy is a generational opportunity. It will make you rich in a very short time. I say sell the blue chips

I sold off all but energy stocks a few days into invasive, all in on BTE, ATH & CNQ. Markets will be in the wood chipper for multiple days ahead. Oil will spike in the 130's near term imo

Except that after this terrible war that's taking place now, is that practically most of the people in our world did not expect this kind of thing to happen. We kind of all saw this one world order change happening. Especially with the green energy world push. I think many now will be thinking Take care of ourselves first. Just as Germany is planning on doing by securing coal reserves. I know ...more

In exactly the same boat.  Gains in last two years have been phenominal, have cashed in some, but still sitting on quite a few 10-20K capital gainers. Be very thoughtful of the the dividends you are getting based upon your ACB, and the long term benefit there ... you can't get back in at the same level.  E.g. FRU is now giving me 9% at 6 cents a month, and they paid out 14 cents a ...more

yes I agree that it is going to be Q1 that is the turning point. So over the next 6 weeks is the time to make your move. I'm up about 80% blended average on my bank stocks with I think limited room from here. There's a certain allure to safety. But it's not nearly as interesting to think about as going all in on oil for a year

JD, I thought about this also...but I come back to my thought is that technically you can never have enough so I stay diversified. I have known many people to add millions to their net worth and they are still grumpy and looking for "more" I'm not sure but what I do realize is I don't need a fancy car or private jet. Give me a comfortable house and the ability to travel a few ...more

Good question  re oil, you are not overpaying given commodity prices and the term of the expected war in Ukraine and its supply demand impact on Russian oil. long term, Canada has land, clean water and oil - all things the rest of the world had growing demand for, you could add in cleAn air but no one has figured out how to sell that yet - so long term ignoring ups and downs along the way ...more

helping my kids actually is my motivation. I sold some bluechip today and pushed more towards oil.
