Should Baytex sell off Canadian operations?

Haven't posted here for a while, still holding Baytex since 2020. What if Baytex sold all operations in Canada, would they be able to eliminate all debt? Develop the Eagle Ford to its potential? With no debt, producing on 90,000 bpd with higher US prices and lower transport costs, to me it makes total sense. The anti oil Canadian gov & the WCS vs WTI issue will be no longer.

Why would you sell your most profitable assets? Clearwater is an absolute cash cow and these wells pay out in no time...

Hi Wildfury ! I also think about it, especially with the Duvernay locations, a young new play ! I try to ask the management about that at the last conf. call, no reply ! But i will send a bunch of questions to Brian Ector somewhere in november ! He's a nice guy, always available to done more details. I hope with next drilling results, they are able to update their Assets value for the 176 ...more

Greetings Red, yes I have also contacted Brian numerous times, he does make an effort to reply but he can only offer limited information. Baytex will be trading in double digits within 24 months, this is my opinion and that's why I don't day trade it, patience is required. If you're holding BTE in a TFSA and you like to flip in and out for pennies you may or may not make any gains but ...more

I am just guessing here.  But if you think your company is undervalued, you pay off all your debt and now you become a target for takeover.  The other companies will see the value and you wont get the value you deserve.  Yeah the other company will pay a small premium but not the premium you would get when the company slowly pays off its debt and grows its assets.    I ...more

What's wrong with Baytex being debt free? Mostly all oil stocks are undervalued aren't they? When will they be valued as they should be? In my opinion if the stock is not valued correctly it means that the market doesn't want it to appreciate, they would rather pick on it as they see fit, drive it up, then short it down, over and over again. If the market won't value it as it ...more

The problem is the Canadian assets Baytex should sell like the viking wouldnt get alot of value right now...cost of borrowing is high that is also hurting asset values and also alot of mature assets on the market right now for sale. I think if viking play was stronger in a lower priced oil enviroment BTE wouldnt have had to buy the USA assets ranger oil. Ranger oil gave BTE drilling locations ...more
