Shares buyback effect

For the past 12 months BTE bought back 55,365,100 at the average price of $5.31, the starting day of buyback was Jun 29, 2023 and WTI was $69.86, BTE SP was $4.32, now after spending $293M to buyback and WTI is $80+ yet the SP is just $4.63. Isn't better to pay down debt 100% of FCF instead of buyback and meaningless dividend?

If management believes the company is quite undervalued then over the long run you are better off buying back shares. 5 years from now perhaps people will be saying why did they not just buyback more shares when the price was under $5

but like I said before, for now buyback=0 effect debt reduced=0 effect dividend= 0 effect. until the  50%  of  total buyback and 50% debt decreased  and the dividend does not matter in the oil sector because  not safe.  And dont forget the WTI, we need to be around $90 US and more, otherwise YO YO  a few pennies for many years.

The Dem's wont allow $90 Oil, Joe's Presidency depends on it.  They will do and say whatever they can, for as long as they can to keep a lid on Oil Prices.    It's what they do.  Wars don't matter, Hurricanes don't matter, Draining the SPR dont matter, OPEC dont matter.    Nothing matters.   I do believe they will cut interest rates on ...more

LOL, So you are short this stock then because if you were long you say be patient, concerns are being taken care of it just takes time.  Well SP has sucked, but over time the 3 things you mention will have a tremendous impact on the sp.7 % of shares bought back, what if they did that over 10 years, same with debt.....

Buybacks are nothing but financial engineering to profit MGMT and are for the most part completely useless in increasing SP.However a meaningful dividend  is something that shareholders can bank on and reinvest in more shares or dep?oy where they choose. The BTE dividend is very substandard but of course mgmt are not aligned with shareholders and continually promise but under deliver.BTW data ...more

So why are you here. You don't like buybacks or the dividend. Soft bash because you are short.Otherwise go buy a dividend stock.

Just because somebody disagrees with your points of view or analyze that doesn't make them a basher. Sick and tired of those types of judgements by posters

I am here because l have every right to be , just like you , fool.I have never shorted a stock in my life as l find it a disgusting way to invest , hoping a shareholder loses. If making a comment or suggestion is so abhorrent to you then l suggest you shove it and something else where the sun don't shine. Now appointed Board Monitor , fire away.

Apologises , fat fingers and didn't reread my post ,That 70% should have read 60%., still a huge amount in the pockets of those who believe in Divs and not as another poster stated that Mgmt bought back shares at an average of $5.31 , now look at the SP , how did that waste of money work out.Whst a brilliant money losing boner of a move.Lets give them a raise or just wait for them to reward ...more

Both buybacks and  dividends have their place. Situations vary between companies.Baytex's mngmt team has determined buybacks now, dividends later is the best course for shareholders . Since they are the ones with the training/education /experiance I'm going to go with their judgement. If you feel strongly they are wrong in their veiw you are free to invest else where.

Makes sense buying at these low prices
Comment by Banshee on Jun 28, 2024 1:34pm
Yeah , just like they thought buying back at $5.31 was a bargain basement price. Just like a weatherman these people don't get it right 50 percent or more of the time. That buyback just wasted shareholder money with the current SP ,now if Shareholders had received it as a civic nd , monthly and reinvested it at both higher and lower prices their BTE portfolio component would be higher.Simp,e ...more

Here's the thing guys. WHY are you here?? BTE has CLEARLY stated that they will use buybacks as part of their strategy. So if you do not like this idea then WHY are you here??
Comment by NobleHouse on Jun 28, 2024 3:02pm
Once again for a fool who doesn't get it. Making a suggestion or comment that MGMT may be not acting in the best interests of Shareholders does not automatically make you a shorter. Now if you in your wisdom , highly unlikely think that MGMT somehow sits at  on the Lefthand side of GOD , then it's you needs a reality check , but that would take some self reflection , you aren't ...more
