May 2021 sitting at $444

Lumber companies are going to be printing money if this keeps up.

Look foreard a year -- the next 12 months will be (or could be locked in currently) as the best year ever. I based this on (rough numbers, top of my my head) for West Fraser.  They had 2018 lumber prices of $480 and a 77 cent dollar.  They made EBTIDA of 1.2 billion.  Just obscene.  Anyway, take the futures mid-way for the next year (US 494), dial down the dollar to 0.735, and ...more

My main question is how long can lumber prices stay elevated like this. Prices are up because production curtailed on the back of housing demand not declining as expected and demand from home improvement  Once production ramps up that demand should be met and prices should temper. Housing starts rebounded nicely in the US today. 30 year Mortgage rates hit an all time low. Those are good ...more

CFF is still absolutely in good shape with lumber @ $450...  even $400.   The one nice thing about Conifex is that there are so few moving parts to evaluate at this point.  You've got the power plant, the one mill and the tenure and debt.   The power plant is steady eddy, so as long as their stupid old mill is churning out lumber at $400+ they're making a tidy ...more

Haha no kidding re: turning Tesla fanboys to lumber fanboys Interest rates are going to stay low for the next 2 years. That will help housing continue to spur demand. De urbanization due to work from home will spur marginal housing production as well. Who knows if this home reno kick continues as a source of demand but if so, god bless. I also wonder to what extent large infrastructure ...more
