Caustic soda price

Caustic soda price Caustic Prices Continue To Climb Higher

European buyers continue to look for caustic soda from other regions, given prices in Europe are well north of $1,000/dmt on supply constraints and high power costs (refer line chart in Exhibit 13).

Relevant for CHE.UN, northeast Asian export prices rose further this week to around $660/dmt (+2% W/W and +26% M/M). Argus indicates that latest offers were higher at $680-700/dmt in response to rising buying interest for exports to Europe, pointing to a further rise in prices in the weeks ahead. Also, U.S. Gulf caustic export prices jumped +9% W/W to $900/dmt. In the U.S., maintenance activity and slowing chlorine demand are impacting caustic soda supply from the U.S. Gulf, while demand for caustic soda exports to Europe is increasing. Recall that a significant portion of chlorine demand in the U.S. is tied to the housing market which is slowing.
