tax withhold of 30%

Hi everyone

My broker retained 30 % as tax withhold on the december dividende, is that normal to proceed to a tax withhold for canadian receiving dividende from a canadian trust

Ask your broker if you need to fill out a W-8BEN-E form.  It essentially says you are a Canadian citizen paying Canadian taxes and US taxes do not apply.  I suppose that is your status.

And if you are getting better advice from the internet than you are from your broker I would suggest you find a better broker.

What type of account is it held in?  That determines the tax treatment. Different for TFSA than RSP, which is different than cash/margin account. And your broker is a better source of information than some random guy on a chat board.
