Tentative Chorus Bidding Calendar

November 3 - US Presidential Election

It is unlikely that any serious economic decision can be taken ahead of clear results in the presidential election. This said, some uncertainty will remain after election day.

November 9 - Air Canada Third Quarter Financial Results

Likely not positive. But all eyes will be on AC vulnerability. Can AC counterbid a not so generous offer for Chorus? Of course an all-share counterbid would remain possible, but what would then be the actual value and future prospects of the AC shares? All strategic information potential bidders might want to wait for.

November 11 - Chorus Third Quarter Financial Results

Big time key information, especially for potential counter-bidders (the current bidder might already have some of this information in confidence). I would expect this disclosure to be particularily detailed in order to provide a leveled playing field to all potential bidders. And the subsequent conference call will be something to listen to. Chorus will be hard-pressed to release details about the bid it received and its assessment. So much that it might prefer to make public a decision on the bid before the call.

November - Eventual federal update on measures to help airlines

Still a possibility according to the media. Most certainly positive to Chorus. Of interest to any bidder, but a bid has likely more chances to succeed ahead of the good news. So might not be worth waiting for. The current bidder did not.

November - Further updates on Covid vaccines

We may have to wait several months before an effective vaccine gets approved, but everyone is growing more hopeful every day. Early bids will benefit from the lesser optimism.

Just kicking ideas around. So do your own dd, as they say.

I guess thats nice food for thought, but the reality is there are new takeover deals announced each week. Just in the past couple of weeks: Cenovis/Husky, AMD/Xillinx, Brookfield/Genworth off the top of my head, all announced while knowing the election is coming Nov 3. None felt the need to wait on these billion dollar deals. Could happen anytime. If it is Fairfax thinking of buying CHR, I can ...more

True Hermann, simple food for thought. (And thank you for the digging you did on the debentures.) However, all airlines investors have their eyes turned toward the possibility of a governmental help package, in both countries. Will circumstances be favourable after election day? Will the stockmarket tank for weeks, making the fixing of a bid price elusive? What about the availability of credit ...more

I know, I know some on this board insisted the US election was irrelevant in the Chorus takeover saga... And I sincerely thought we were on solid ground notwithstanding... But now the unthinkable is happening south of the border. Unchartered waters from here, really. See The Atlantic web article titled What if Trump Refuses to Concede.

Have you noticed the US stock market this week? I would say that election uncertainty has not scared off investors, to say the least.

Trump will likely lose Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvannia and Georgia. even though they will be close, giving Biden in excess of 300 electoral votes even though he needs only 270. Biden is also winning the popular vote by 4 million. If the above is the result, those close to Trump will be smart enough to tell him enough is enough, the game is over. step down and respect democracy. Will the markets ...more
