RE:RE:RE:Canada oil use will peak in 2018 Well a carbon tax would be one way to tamp demand. But the main driver of lowering the country's reliance on fossil fuels will come through technological advancement. Increased energy efficiency in homes, cars...etc., combined with more efficient renewable energy production should be the main factor. I have my doubts that 2018 will mark the peak of Canada's fossil fuel demand, but it stands to reason that renewables will make up a larger and larger share of Canada's energy supply.

Canada is already 66% renewable, not a big stretch to get to 82% by 2040. Little of that involves oil. Nukes, water power, biomass as well as solar and wind are all considered renewable. IEA says oil use will continue to grow thru the next decade into 2040. Populations grow , energy use grows, were going to need all the gas and oil we can get. How are they going to try to tamp demand of oil and gas, higher carbon taxes... that might work but we have elections every 4 yrs. Ask Wynne in Ontario hows that working for her, 15% popularity.....
From the NEB report...
Federal and provincial governments are aiming to reduce fossil-fuel demand in transportation as well as in home heating and industrial applications. With current policies, the country's consumption of fossil fuels would peak in 2019 but remain relatively flat in the next two decades, leaving that demand 4 per cent higher in 2040 than in 2016, the NEB said.
