Cardinal Energy Ltd (Alberta) > Dividends are very important now

Dividends are very important now

A large dividend is important now. Reason being if Canadian oil stocks are not going to be appreciated with share price then there needs to be a reason to hold. No reason to hold share prices go down simple as that. Yes they are extremely undervalued but that could be the norm for quite some time. I need to get some value for my money now.
we see it in other Canadian oil stocks too. If they have a dividend its barely factored into share price. All the oils go up and down together dividend or not.
Cardinals debt it such that its at a sustainable level with a big dividend even if oil goes to $80. If you don't think oil is going to stay higher for longer your in the wrong sector

6-7 cents is the right number. Nothing less

Would you be happier with the sp increasing .50 cents today or .07 cents over the next 3 months? I think you guys are placing WAY too much importance on this divy.
Comment by MrICE on May 12, 2022 11:24am
That's my point. The dividend doesn't effect the share price in today's market. You can have both. It's not one or the other the market isn't connected to true value
Comment by masfortuna on May 12, 2022 11:34am
Agreed.  ALL oil stocks are undervalued based on ALL the metrics. They will go up in value until they reach close to their valuations. Then investors will decide what they are looking for. My divy paying stocks are all down MORE ( CVE, CPG, GXE, and WCP)  than my non divy paying stocks.  anybody care to explain that?
Comment by MohelJFox on May 12, 2022 11:30am
I don't feel that way, I think the oil bulls, the Nutall cult were looking for the holy grail this earnings season, only to be disappointed by several companies. Baytex,Tamarack and others maybe increased their dividend a hair, "applied" for a NCIB, or simply kept the course. Heck, I haven't looked into it yet, but it appears CPG actually added shares to their float , all ...more

Umm Mohel...Gxe is trading 4.5 x less than cj so it would be a .07 cent divy here...

Did you notice I said 1 penny per 1/4 ?   It's peanuts for a debt free company !
Comment by MohelJFox on May 12, 2022 11:51am
This is why I'm saying anything 5c + will stand out among others ! I'm looking for another Canadian company that comes close ?
Comment by MohelJFox on May 13, 2022 1:35am
Huh, sounds like this is the champ !
Comment by masfortuna on May 12, 2022 11:58am
It is! I agree.Except it's not.  It's 2.5 cents next quarter.  It's on a scale with room to increase if needed.
Comment by MohelJFox on May 12, 2022 12:02pm
I want to believe you friend, I hold a whack of Gear to, but, how am I misunderstand this ?    Gear's board of directors has approved the initiation of a quarterly variable cash dividend program with an initial dividend of $0.01 per common share. The dividend will be paid on May 30, 2022 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on May 16, 2022.
Comment by masfortuna on May 12, 2022 2:04pm
They gave all 4 quarters and said that they would increase the variable rate if the market is better than their projections at $90 oil.  As it stands if you add all 4 quarters their divy is 6.5% this year (minimum).  They are down 17% since the quarter release last Thursday.  Meaning that I would rather have that 17% back and they can keep the annual 7% divy. Mohel you do realize ...more

I'm aware how cycles work, I don't know why I needed a reminder?  But can you explain where you pulled that 2.5c a share from on Gxe? I'm with you on everything else, just if your going to post info, that contradicts the news release, maybe you should write the news release for them ?
Comment by drdrab on May 12, 2022 4:27pm
But can you explain where you pulled that 2.5c a share from on Gxe? Why don't you read their while earning release? The info is right there. You just have to read to the end and pay attention to what you are reading. 1 cent 1Q. 2.6 cent 2Q. 1.5 cent 3Q. 1.9 cent 4Q.
Comment by MohelJFox on May 12, 2022 4:56pm
Hey Dr. !  New guy ? Thanks, the cookie crumbs are adding up er sorta ? So meat stick said it's a 6.5% divi, that's what caught my eye.  I asked politely for him to explain that number , and I got a lesson in markets that go up and down? Adding the "projected" divi's I get 7c/yr on a current $1.40 stock. That is not 7% ? It's 5 which is ...more

MJF pay no attention to MastaF.   With this error, he's now  posted two out-in-left-field mistakes this week so credibility is a problem for him.
Comment by masfortuna on May 12, 2022 6:58pm
Mohel check your info. That's the payout for the second quarter so YES you needed the info and you are welcome. Check the chart in the quarter for the divy payment.  Incidentally it's not .01 in quarter 3 and 4 either. No need to get defensive.
Comment by odinburnz on May 12, 2022 11:29am
I would be happy if the stock price does not drop tomorrow.
Comment by TheWokeLemming on May 12, 2022 11:40am
Same for me.  Not expecting much now.   Great earnings in the whole sector yet share prices have tumbled.   Earnings don't seem to be moving the needle except if there was a run up before they got released, which definitely is not a worry here.   The whole sector is moving in lock step for the most part.
Comment by MrICE on May 12, 2022 2:54pm
Here is one thing I do know.  if dividend is big 6-7 cents stock price will go up tomorrow.  if dividend is low 3-4 cents stock prices will drop tomorrow.  I realize it doesn't make sense but that's what will happen.  we are all tired of extra conservative management. It's time to Strut our balance sheet.
