Borrowing money to pay a dividend

We have seen this story before from CJ. Questions for those who have fallen in love with the dividend:

- What happens to the share price when they cut it?

- Was anyone invested here in 2015?

- If you didn't own this now, would you buy it?

I've been here since 2018, went through the cut and suspension, thought it might die or get sold off... When the turn around happened I doubled and over tripled my initial investment and still adding, tho now it seems to be by way of options, just because I'm well overweight and I'm playing a risk reward game on the options. I agree that was a bad quarter, but I don't see it as ...more

I would agree that they are unlikely to cut the dividend until their backs are against the wall. They will borrow for a year to pay it before they would consider cutting and hope for a sudden drop in oil prices to scapegoat the move.

You and l in the same boat ,Riski and l would bet a number of my previous losers parallel  yours.It took me me out of O and G for some time but recently l jumped back in with both feet. This hard earned money was bet on just two stocks CJ and GXE  and at least for now represents 30% of my portfolio , b!it unlike the bad old days in this sector , l learned my lesson and will not hold on ...more
