Global Steel Production Figures for June 2012 came out today. Global Production in June '12 amounted to 128 million metric tons.
Shown hereunder is a comparison between Q1 + Q2 figures 2011 vs. 2012
Q 1 2011 : 365 million metric tons Q1 2012 : 368 million metric tons
Q 2 2011 : 385 million metric tons Q2 2012 : 387 million metric tons
Total Production in 2011 was 1,527 million metric tons ( new record )
Total Production in 2012 is on track to stay around 1.510 million metric tons of which approximately 75 % require iron ore and metcoal to be produced by way of Basic Oxygen Furnace
For each ton the producers will need about 1.6 metric tons of Fe 60% iron ore and approx. 0.55 metric tons coking coal.
