RE:Freeze offs Wet gas hydrates/freezes at cold Temperatures which is the creation of ice that will cause valves/orifices to plug.
In the old days, water in your gasoline could freeze (create ice crystals) that would block the fuel lines & starve the engine for fuel. Adding methanol will inhibit the ice formation OR will melt the entrained ice. Refineries must test Sales Gasoline & Diesel for "Ice Point" before they are allowed to sell it & these Specificaton Limits change seasonally !
Natural Gas for pipeline sales has an approximate Specification of -10C at 5,500 psi delivery pressure. In CANADA !!
Perhaps the USA has a higher Spec Temp that allows their Nat Gas to freeze at higher temps.
(Imagine Texas has a +45 Spec because it never actually gets colder there.)
Adding Methanol to Pipeline Natural Gas is very effective in preventing Hydrates, but it's very expensive !!
