Minto expansion

Minto expansion

Yukon radio news.  Tried to find a news release to back this up but couldn't.  Maybe this isn't news to people in the know?  Doesn't seem consistent with today's drop in SP.

Minto mine given green light to proceed with expansion plans

CKRW 8:00 A.M. NEWS                                                      TUESDAY, FEB. 22, 2011

Yukon’s Environmental and Socio Economic Assessment Board is giving the green light to an expansion at the Minto mine.  Capstone Mining is looking to phase 4 of the high grade copper mine which would include two new ore zones, underground mining, new waste management practices and expansion of the reclamation overburden dumps, waste rocks dumps and camp by 100 people. The approval comes with 37 terms and conditions to mitigate the potential adverse effects ranging from camp maintenance to reclamation efforts. Some of the concerns brought forward include water management and quality, infrastructure stability and impacts on area fish habitat. In the application Capstone says the expansion will extend the current mine life by about 4 years and exploration activities will continue during the expansion. The company is looking ahead to phase 5 of the mine and have already been to Pelly Crossing to present conceptual plans to the community and Selkirk FN.
